To recap the Worlds information meeting VMS held before practice Sunday evening: There were 14 people attending and after some discussion we voted that the club would take two coaches to Worlds, since the difference per person was minimal (about $125). This is after applying the $1186.31 raised so far in fundraising to coach travel costs.

Rhonda kindly put together a rough budget so you could get a sense of it. I've attached it here.

This is based on 15 swimmers attending Worlds. If more people go, the costs go down. In addition to Rhonda's budget, I outlined the costs slightly differently (using Rhonda's numbers - the only change I made was the cost of the coaches hotel, since that will be less than Rhonda's estimate of $200/night)

Club costs at Worlds:

2 coach registration - $80 USD = $107

Synchro Canada Bid = $100

2 coaches flight - $1850 ($3034-$1186.32 from fundraising)

2 coaches hotel - $78Euro/night x 10 = $1120 CAD

2 coaches time on deck - $1600

=$4777 / 15 swimmers

= $318.50 per person

Duet costs at Worlds:

Duet registration - $30 USD = $40.50

coach time - variable = $100 (I guessed 5-6 hours?)

=$140.50 / 2 swimmers = $70.25 per person

Pool time fees post-Provincials, pre-Worlds - $150/person

=$220.25/person

Team Costs at Worlds:

Team registration per athlete - $20.25

Coaching included above

Pool time fees post-Provincials, pre-Worlds - $450/person

Extra UBC practices - $46/person

=$516.25/person

Individual Costs at Worlds:

Flight - $1517 was the cheapest Rhonda could find flying to Budapest

Hotel Apartment - 10 nights (August 4-14)

Food - variable

Family/Friend spectators - $40 USD (they need to be registered in advance!)

Total per person without food or hotel (Team only): $2351.75

Total per person without food or hotel (Team & Duet): $2572

Lodging is the huge variable here. Melinda had found some great options that come in a huge variety of price points. These are apartments so all have full kitchens so you can cook all your food or eat out, whichever you prefer. Most come with beds and sofas, and Melinda had asked that they give us as many single beds as possible. The bedrooms have what they call "French beds" (160x200 cm), queen size. Once the booking is final they will work on accommodating the single bed request.

If you were very concerned about costs you could speak with your coach/team about whether you could leave early or arrive late. Though spacing is the only time you'll get with music all week so it's probably worthwhile.

Studio - 1 bed (1-2 people): Eur 68 ($97.50 CAD) One bedroom 1 bed, 1 sofa (2 people): Eur 78 ($112 CAD) One bedroom 1 bed, 1 sofa (4 people): Eur 98 ($140 CAD) Two bedroom 2 beds, 1 sofa (4-6 people): Eur 138 ($200 CAD)

So if you were content sharing a 1 bedroom amongst 4 people that would be only $35 CAD/night. So your total may be $2700 + food/entertainment costs).
