General & Treasurer Updates
We're now officially an incorporated member society. We'll be having an AGM sometime in the fall - stay tuned! Now that we're official, we also have our official bank account up and running and Cait is taking over the treasurer duties from Rhonda. This change is effective with fees incurred after Regionals (so any invoices up to Regionals still need to be paid to Rhonda still as that's going through the old account).
With our new official bank account we now have the ability to receive e-transfers for fees! If you'd like to take advantage of this, you can now do so by emailing any payments to vmstreasurer@gmail.com. The club does get charged for this so if you take advantage of e-transfers please include a $1 surcharge to cover our increased bank fees.
FINA Worlds
The countdown is on! We're now 153 days away from the Masters Championships and registration is now open. No need to register yet - the deadline isn't until June, but we're having an information session for anyone interested in attending Worlds. At this session we will cover schedules, expectations, estimated costs and accommodations.
We will be having this session on Sunday March 19th @ 5:30pm at Britannia Pool.
Volunteering at Provincials
In the coming weeks, you'll receive an email from either me or Synchro BC about the volunteer sign-up for available spots at the Mable Moran (Masters Provincials Meet).
It is very important that Vancouver Masters as a club fulfill its volunteer quota at synchro meets. The club can be fined for not fielding volunteers (as in, we have to send Synchro BC a cheque - funded by your dues!). Yes, it's a crazy busy day to add volunteering into the mix but unfortunately at this time Masters swimmers are not exempt from the volunteering requirement.
However, the VMS volunteer doesn't necessarily have to be a VMS swimmer. Do you have a loved one coming to watch you swim? Suggest they work as a timer for 90 minutes while you swim - the timing table has one of the best seats in the house!
Fundraising update
We have final numbers for the pub trivia night we hosted back in January. We raised $875! A huge, huge thank you to Emma who spearheaded this event and did an amazing job. This makes a huge dent in paying for the cost of sending coaches to Worlds so thank you!
We do plan on hosting another one - we're currently sorting out the night but we're planning on another Saturday evening at the Granville room. Stay tuned. If we end up doing this, we will need 4 club volunteers who will 'man' the event - help set up tables, collect money at the door, sign people in and sell 50/50 tickets. I'll be asking for volunteers later on.
Remember raffle tickets are due back to me/Rhonda/Cait before provincials as the draw is done at Provincials. Coffee sales are ongoing so take advantage of that as you like!
